Getting & Using a Library Card

Online Sign-Up

Follow the links below to sign up for a library card online. This will grant access to all of our online resources; including eBooks, eAudioBooks, and our streaming video service, Kanopy. You will need to prove residency or home ownership in Custer County to sign-up for a library card online. A photo of your driver’s license with your current address in Custer County is the most efficient way to sign-up for your card, but please contact us at info@westcusterlibrary.org if you need a different way to verify your address. Documents Needed to Sign Up for a Library Card

New patrons have multiple options for providing proof of identification and proof of address in Custer County (this means they have proof of residence or ownership of property in Custer County).

The easiest way to sign up for a library card is providing a document that includes both proof of identification and proof of address:

  • Current (non-expired) government issued ID with Custer County address (handwritten updated addresses on the back will need to provide other proof of address)
    • Note: typically a driver’s license

If a new patron is unable to provide the document above, they will need to provide 1 proof of ID and 1 proof of address:

  • Any government issued photo ID (including expired – this is just for verification of who they are, not their address), including but not limited to:


  • For minors only: school ID (note: university IDs are not considered government issued)

  • Please note that name changes can be verified with any government issued marriage certificate/license

  • We offer a religious exemption to the Amish community: we understand some people don’t have an ID for religious reasons, so we will only need your proof of address.
  • Staff verification on Custer County Assessor’s website, using name from government issued ID presented (or in addition to name on marriage certificate)
  • Postmarked mail addressed to name on ID to a Custer County address (street address or PO Box)
  • Bill or account statement from a bank, credit card, utility, or any medical bill issued to name on ID listing a Custer County address
  • Employment contract at Sky Ranch
  • Acceptance letter or proof of enrollment at Sangre de Cristo Seminary
  • Social Security paperwork listing address
  • Vehicle registration paperwork listing address
  • Signed lease agreement
  • Current car insurance card

Note: For Juvenile accounts, these criteria apply to the responsible adult who is signing the form.

A phone number or email address is required but proof is not required.

To View Your Account Or To Set Up Your Online Account:

You will need a 14-digit library card (below the barcode on the back of your library card) to login to your account.

Click here to login to your account, then use your 14-digit library card number and password.

Your library account will list materials you have checked out, list the due dates of the materials you have checked out, and allow you to place books, movies, and audio books on hold from most libraries throughout the state.

Replacement Cards

The fee for a replacement library card is $1.00.
