The West Custer County Library, in collaboration with the Sangres Art Guild, is offering the 55+ Custer County community a creative pass to free “basic”, mentor-led art experiences. A “basic” series will be held the first Tuesday of each month starting in August, and continuing into September, and October. The first class will be “Drawing Basics” led by mentor Anne Owens. In this two-hour class, participants will draw basic shapes as a starting activity, start with a sketch, move to drawing details, in order to create depth. Classes will be held on the first floor at the Third Street Gallery, 59000 N. Highway 69, Westcliffe (Handicap accessible). Registration is required to attend this class. Art experiences have been linked to improved social interactions, better cognitive function, and resilience in aging. Expression through art can also aid depression, anxiety, and stress. Why let children have all the fun in art classes; you don’t have to color in the lines anymore!
The “drawing basics” mentor Anne is passionate about drawing because it is the basis for all other art mediums. She is a retired art teacher and an award-winning artist for her pencil drawings, pastel paintings, oil paintings and sculptured artworks.
Watch for more “basic” classes in September and October on the Library website.
